“As an Urban Aboriginal woman who walks this country and her forever changing lands, I tread lightly and respectfully remembering the warrior women, my ancestors that fought for the very existence of our people and our beautiful traditions and Cultural practices, I celebrate the here and now and look back at how far we have come in claiming our black history. Walking around the city of Sydney in her beauty built on the bones of our people, I surrender to what it has become in many ways, but deep within burns the flames in the hearts of these amazing women, taken from their mothers, their country (Dunghutti nation among the others but relevant to my mob ) displaced and replaced, surviving the dark pain of their past, their strength, the resilience, the brave, I feel their triumphs, I walk proud, this country belongs to me as I pass the torch to the black women to follow, my daughters we have survived.”
